Leona and Rays of Sunshine
Leona Lewis gave a Barley girl with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma the day of her dreams.
Twelve-year-old Jessica Allan had just started at Newport Free Grammar School when she was diagnosed with cancer of the lymphatic system last year.
Determined Jessica decided to fit her chemotherapy treatment at Addenbrooke’s Hospital around her normal school routine. But her confidence deteriorated when she lost her waist-length blonde hair and gained weight due to steroid treatment.
Mum Samantha said: “Her self-image took a battering, but she was outstanding, stoical. I couldn’t be more proud of anybody.” One year on, Jessica is in remission and the Rays of Sunshine Children’s Charity has helped to completely restore her confidence.
The charity arranged for Jessica to meet X-Factor winner Leona Lewis at Topshop in Oxford Street for a girlie makeover.
Samantha said: “It was such an incredible day for Jess it was like going shopping with the coolest, trendiest auntie. “She feels very special. “Leona was amazing and talked to Jess about the dresses she liked in the videos and the songs Jess liked best.” Jessica, her 10-year-old sister Jasmine and her mum and dad had an extra surprise when her limousine stopped off at the Millennium Hotel in Mayfair where Rays of Sunshine was hosting a JLS wish morning on the same day.
She said: “This day gave us the feeling of a fresh start.
“The big thing for me is to thank Rays of Sunshine, Leona and Topshop and everybody who made the day so special

Thanks to Amy for the story.
I love these stories as it really shows what a caring person Leona is.
